Clewiston rests along Lake Okeechobee's south shore in Hendry County, some 66 miles east of Cape Coral and near the outer limit of that hub. About 7,300 residents, 2,700 households. Housing runs older than most of Southwest Florida (median 1978). Detached homes account for 68%, manufactured 11%. Electric heat covers 78%; propane 6%, gas 5%, both above coastal norms.
Scope checklist
☐ Electrical panel. Late-'70s service panels sometimes lack capacity or breaker space for modern equipment.
☐ Return air. Original returns were often undersized; new blowers struggle without enough intake.
☐ Duct route. Low attics, occasionally in-slab ducts. Tight access lengthens labor.
☐ Fuel. Propane- or gas-equipped homes might pair cooling with a fuel-fired furnace. Others typically choose a heat pump plus air handler.
☐ Manufactured housing. Roughly 11% of dwellings; HUD-code approved indoor units, belly ducts inspected.
☐ Distance. Long drive from Cape Coral; scheduling accounts for travel.
Lake moisture
Okeechobee keeps dew points high well into autumn. Equipment sized tightly, running long cycles, pulls more water from indoor air than an oversized unit cycling briefly. Mention any musty closets or sweating vents when requesting quotes; they hint at sizing problems worth fixing now.
Why no posted figure?
Each checkbox can expand or shrink a project. Generic numbers would mislead Clewiston owners, so quotes come after details.
Behind Cooling Direct
Furnace Direct, a DBA of Hamlin Mechanical LLC, runs Cooling Direct as its Florida brand, shipping AC systems factory-direct while Cape Coral schedulers assign licensed installers.
Comparing bids
Request separate lines for ducts, electrical upgrades, permits. Pick cooler months for longer-distance work.
