Goodman's own limited-warranty documents describe the same rule: the first four digits of the serial number (YYMM) indicate the manufacture date, for example “1306” = June 2013. The month digits must be 01–12. If they aren't, you are probably looking at a different number on the label.

Where to find the Goodman data plate

AC or heat pump
The rating plate is generally slightly above the refrigerant valves on the back side of the outdoor unit.

80% gas furnace
Turn off power, remove the top access door, and look for the model/serial label inside the furnace on the left side.

90%+ gas furnace
Turn off power and remove the bottom access door. The model/serial label is usually on the inside of that door.

No access?
Many dealers attach the “traveler label” from the shipping box to your installation paperwork. It shows the same model and serial.

Frequently asked questions

How do I read a Goodman serial number?
On most Goodman products the serial number is 10 digits and the first four digits are the manufacture date in YYMM form: the first two digits are the year and the next two are the month. A serial that starts with 1503 was built in March 2015. Goodman's own limited-warranty documents use the same rule (for example, a serial beginning with 1306 = June 2013).
How old is my Goodman furnace?
Turn off power to the furnace, open the access door and find the model/serial label (inside on the left on most 80% furnaces; inside the bottom access door on most 90% furnaces). Read the first four digits of the serial number as year and month, then subtract from today's date. For example, a furnace with serial 0805xxxxxx was built in May 2008, so it is about 18 years old in 2026.
Does a Goodman serial starting with 2011 mean it was made in 2011?
No. The first four digits are year then month, not a four-digit year. A serial starting with 2011 means November 2020, and one starting with 1102 means February 2011. If the third and fourth digits are not 01–12, you are probably reading a different format; check the plain-text date on the rating plate.
Do Amana and Daikin units use the same serial code as Goodman?

How old is too old for a Goodman unit?
Furnaces typically last 15–20 years and ACs/heat pumps 12–15. Once yours is in that range and needs a major repair, replacing it factory-direct is usually the better spend.
