Bryant Model Number Lookup: How to Read Bryant Furnace and AC Model Numbers
Bryant model numbers use a three-digit series code instead of Carrier's letters, but they encode the same things: efficiency, staging, capacity and cabinet size. Here is how to split one apart. This guide decodes Bryant furnace and air-conditioner model numbers position by position, using the key Bryant prints on its own product data sheets. Bryant is built by Carrier. The equipment and the nomenclature logic are parallel, so a Bryant 926T is the sibling of a Carrier 59TP6. If your unit is a Carrier, use the Carrier model number guide.... Read more...
York Model Number Lookup: How to Read York Furnace and AC Model Numbers
York model numbers are short and dense. A furnace number like TM9V080B12MP12C carries the series, efficiency, staging, input, cabinet and airflow in the first ten characters; an outdoor unit like YCG36B21S gives up type, SEER and tonnage in six. This guide decodes York furnace and air-conditioner model numbers position by position, using the key York prints on its own product data sheets. York is built by Johnson Controls, which also makes Coleman and Luxaire. The three brands share equipment and use parallel model numbers (a York TM9V is a Coleman... Read more...
Rheem Model Number Lookup: How to Read Rheem Furnace and AC Model Numbers
Rheem model numbers read left to right: brand, series, motor, capacity, stages, airflow, cabinet. Rheem publishes the full key on its specification sheets, and this guide follows that key exactly. This guide decodes Rheem furnace and air-conditioner model numbers position by position, using the key Rheem prints on its own product data sheets. Rheem and Ruud are the same company and the same equipment. A Ruud model number is the Rheem number with a U in place of the R (R96V becomes U96V, RA16 becomes UA16). See the Ruud model... Lennox Model Number Lookup: How to Read Lennox Furnace and AC Model Numbers
Lennox model numbers are the most readable in the industry: the series name, efficiency and capacity are written almost in plain language. The trap is the capacity code on furnaces, which is the gas input rounded up, not the exact rating. This guide decodes Lennox furnace and air-conditioner model numbers position by position, using the key Lennox prints on its own product data sheets. Lennox builds three tiers, and the first two letters of every model number tell you which one you have: ML = Merit, EL = Elite, SL... Read more...
Trane Model Number Lookup: How to Read Trane Furnace and AC Model Numbers
Trane uses two model-number systems: an S-series format for furnaces (S9V2, S8X1) and a 4TT / 4TW format for outdoor units. Both are short, and both give up capacity, efficiency and cabinet size once you know the positions. This guide decodes Trane furnace and air-conditioner model numbers position by position, using the key Trane prints on its own product data sheets. Trane and American Standard are the same company. The furnace model numbers are identical (S9V2 is sold under both names) and the outdoor units differ only in the brand... Read more...
Carrier Model Number Lookup: How to Read Carrier Furnace and AC Model Numbers
Carrier model numbers pack the tier, staging, efficiency, capacity and cabinet size of the unit into one string. Once you know where to split it, a Carrier model number tells you almost everything except the unit's age. This guide decodes Carrier furnace and air-conditioner model numbers position by position, using the key Carrier prints on its own product data sheets. Carrier, Bryant and Payne are built by the same company and use parallel model-number logic. If your unit is a Bryant, see the Bryant model number guide. Where to Find... Read more...
High-Efficiency Furnace Condensate: Why It's Acidic and How to Neutralize It
Your 95% furnace makes water when it runs — and that water is acidic. Here’s the simple chemistry and the simple fix. The chemistry, briefly A condensing furnace extracts so much heat that exhaust water vapor condenses to liquid. Combustion byproducts make that condensate mildly acidic, typically pH 3–5 — acidic enough to corrode metal drains and concrete over time. Do You Need a Condensate Neutralizer? What Happens If You Skip It
If you have a 90%+ furnace or boiler, the water it drips is acidic. Skipping a neutralizer is a slow, expensive mistake. Why the condensate is acidic Condensing furnaces and boilers pull so much heat from the exhaust that water vapor condenses out — mildly acidic, low enough pH to eat cast iron, copper, and concrete over time.
